Starting September 1, 2019, The Institute of Internal Auditors has changed the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) program eligibility window from four years to three years. This change reflects the time it normally takes candidates to complete the CIA certification process, and candidates within the three-year program will be able to request a one-year extension if they are unable to complete the certification process within the new three-year window. Candidates approved into the program before September 1, 2019, will still keep a 4-year program window.
Additionally, beginning September 1, 2019, candidates will only need to wait 60 days to retake the CIA exam, rather than the previous 90-day waiting period.
